Weather Warnings in Place
Heavy snow is continue to fall over the weekend. The Met Office has warned of a threat to lifestyles in some regions because of flooding and icy situations. A yellow warning for rain and snow has been issued from 4 a.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday, affecting areas such as north-east and north-west England, the West Midlands, Yorkshire, and elements of Scotland.
Temperatures have already dropped to as low as -7.5°C in some areas, with ice warnings covering much of the east coast and snow and ice warnings extended across northern Scotland until Thursday.

Snow Accumulation and Travel Disruption
Parts of northern and western Scotland are expected to see considerable snow accumulations of 2-5 cm, with higher ground receiving up to 20 cm (7.8 inches). South-west England, including of Plymouth and Dartmoor, is also under a snow warning, with up to 10 cm predicted in higher areas.
The adverse weather has significantly impacted travel. Rail offerings between Exeter and Okehampton have been canceled due to heavy snow, while high winds caused sea spray disruptions along the south coast, particular near Dawlish.
Weekend Weather Outlook
Saturday night will bring a rapid thaw following heavy snowfall and rain, creating further risks of flooding in affected areas. The Met Office warns that some rural communities may become isolated, and travel may be seriously disrupted.
In south-west England and Wales, heavy rainfall of 50-75 mm is predicted, with Dartmoor potentially receiving up to 125 mm. Strong southerly winds are expected to exacerbate the situation.
Met Office spokesperson Andrea Bishop emphasized the severity of the impending weather: A deep area of low pressure will bring prolonged and heavy rainfall to large parts of the UK this weekend.
