In a shocking incident, a Balochistan polio vaccination blast during a health campaign has resulted in the deaths of seven people, including five schoolchildren and a police officer. The explosion occurred in Mastung, Pakistan, on Friday. This raises serious concerns about security and the ongoing fight against polio in the region.

Details of the Explosion

Local government records indicate that a motorized rickshaw transporting schoolchildren was passing by when, tragically, a bomb, hidden on a motorcycle, detonated. At least 22 others were injured. It seems that an IED connected to a bike was detonated near a police mobile, said Kalat Division Commissioner Naeem Bazai. He confirmed that the assault targeted both security personnel and civilians.

Suspected Perpetrators

Though no group has yet claimed responsibility for this tragic attack, suspicions center on separatist factions. They have escalated their attacks on civilians and security forces. Indeed, Baluchistan has long been a hotspot for rebel violence. Organizations like the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) pushing for independence from Pakistan. In recent months, the BLA has intensified its operations. This including a deadly assault last month targeting on Chinese nationals in Karachi.  That attack  resulted in the deaths and injuries of several others.

They vowed to continue the battle against insurgents, declaring that these violent groups will not deter Pakistan’s commitment to stability and safety.

Need for Enhanced Security

Ultimately, this attack not only casts a shadow over public health initiatives but also reflects the urgent need for peace and stability in a region marred by conflict.
